Swimming Year 5
by James Wakeland (Staff) - Thursday, 15 June 2017, 10:50 AM

Some Year 5 children will be swimming this term and their lessons will begin 28.6.17. They will be swimming for two weeks, meaning their other session will be on 5.7.17. Please note swimming is a compulsory part of the curriculum entitlement during your child’s primary education.  Therefore it is essential they participate and there will be very few exceptional reasons accepted for them not participating. A common cold is not an acceptable reason as medical/health and safety guidance clearly states that pupils well enough to attend school are well enough to swim as it is part of the lesson provision.

He/She will need swimming kit and a towel in a bag on that day. Swimming kit must consist of a one piece bathing costume for girls and close fitting swimming trunks, not loose shorts for boys in order to comply with Nottinghamshire County Council Policy. Children with long hair will also need a cap or tied back. No jewellery is to be worn.

If you wish your child to wear goggles for school swimming sessions during the year, you must request a permission slip from the school office. This must be filled in and returned to your child’s teacher – otherwise the wearing of goggles will not be allowed.

If your child has asthma, they will need to give their inhaler (labelled with their name) to the class teacher, to ensure it is available if it is required during the swimming session.

The coach leaves school at 1.45pm and returns approximately 3.25pm, as swimming lessons do not finish until 3.00pm. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience but due to the high demand; this was the only slot available.

It is essential for an observer to be present at each poolside before the lesson can commence and we would be grateful of volunteers for this each week. Please let your child’s teacher know if you are willing and bring suitable footwear as this is required for the poolside. Also if you wish to come along and help with our swimming trips each week you will need to have a ‘Vetting and Barring’ check done via the school office as soon as possible to comply with safeguarding. See the office staff for more details in the office.

Please note that parents/carers who do not have an up to date CRB check that the school office have seen, will not be able to go into the changing rooms unaccompanied by a member of school staff.

Thank you all for your support with this and look forward to seeing some of you coming along to help us out on Wednesdays.

Yours sincerely
